The Chairman’s Charity Cup

Each year the Derbyshire Pub Quiz League raises funds for some good cause – often local to the county, and suggested by League members – through our Chairman’s Charity Cup Night. On Cup Night, (in the past about half-way through the season), teams of league members gather to participate in a one-off evening of quizzing and banter, adding to the funds raised by raffles etc. The quiz setters offer their time and skills freely and the raffle prizes are similarly given.

Our Chair is currently Mrs Ann Ainsworth.

The 2016-2017 Charity Quiz took place at the Royal Oak, Ockbrook and the Plough Inn, Two Dales in October 2016. A total of £223 was shared between Mind, in memory of Howard Hall, and Sight Support Derbyshire.

The Charity Quiz for 2015-2016 was played on the 7 October.  We were able to send a cheque for £315.04 to the Colin Bloomfield Melanoma Appeal.  We included the Honorarium that would have been paid to Ian Robertson, our Secretary who died in the spring – this was the chosen charity after his death.

The 2013-2014 Season Charity Cup Match was held at the beginning of the season. £106 was paid each to the RNLI (local branch) and the Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield.

The 2013 Chairman’s Charity Cup Night was held  Wednesday January 23rd, played at The Plough Inn, Two Dales, and the JCB Club, Rocester, starting at 8pm. It was seriously disrupted by bad weather but raised £150 for The Ben Parker Trust Fund.

The 2012 Chairman’s Charity Cup night on Wednesday January 18th was held simulteneously at The Royal Oak, Ockbrook and The Plough Inn, Two Dales, with questions set by the Horse And Jockey in the north heat, and the Lakeside Club in the southern. The £271 raised, it was decided at our recent committee meeting, should be presented to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, and a cheque has been sent.

In the past few years we have benefitted the following organisations with the funds raised (and we plan to continue):-
