Charity Night – A Great Success

The Derbyshire Pub Quiz League has run its Charity Quiz night for at least 35 years, and this year has been no different. The questions were set, and the evening organised, by last year’s winners from the south, the Dew Drop A of Ilkeston. The questions were read in the north by Martin Payne.

The quiz took place in two venues, the Royal Oak in Ockbrook for those in the south of the county, and the Plough Inn at Two Dales in the north.

In the north Don Ingham reports “We had 10 teams … Everyone seemed to have a good time and enjoy the quiz.  4 teams excelled – Oak, Cliff, Square , Strutt .  Strutt won after tiebreak with the Square.”

Southern scorer Betty Brown reports that the four teams excelling there were the Royals, Bradley House, Oaks, and White Hart. White Hart were the winners and will set the 2020 charity night quiz.

All proceeds of the two events, a grand total of £342, will go to our nominated charity, the Derby branch of Parkinsons UK.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to those who provided raffle prizes which increased the evening’s total income.

Margaret McKenna

Iwan Thomas writes:

I’m very sad to report the death of my former Royal Oak teammate Margaret McKenna, after a short illness. Many of you will remember Margaret as a stalwart of the Royal Oak team (and before that, The Jolly Sailor) for many years, with her husband Mike acting as our question reader. I will pass on any more details when they become available.
