Stephen Hatcher writes:
It is with great sadness that I have to report the sudden death in the early hours of New Year’s Day of Royal Oak, Ockbrook Quiz Team member Ian Parkes. Ian was 54 and had been in apparent good health when he went to bed, but was found by his wife Rachel to have died overnight.
Ian had been a member of our team for a number of years and was a good quizzer – among his achievements, he won £64000 on Who Wants to be a Millionaire in 2002, a winner on The Weakest Link, and a competitor on BBC Brain of Britain 2019.
Ian was a keen amateur dramatist and ukulele player and a connoisseur of vintage television, including Doctor Who, through which I first met him. Ian was a kind and generous friend and a source of great humour – we will miss him terribly.
