DPQL Schedule Resumption

*

Don Ingham writes:-

The League Committee has met up again and agreed to resume fixtures as proposed on 26 January.

We are of course aware that Covid cases are still high, but feel that it is the right time to resume the league and to try to get fixtures moving.  Please contact your pubs and team members as quickly as possible to confirm the news so that they can make necessary scheduling arrangements.

The Amber Hotel team will be playing home matches at the Black Swan at Ashover for the rest of this season and so have been renamed on the fixture list. Unfortunately, the Punch Bowl team cannot commit to playing at the moment and have asked to withdraw from the league this season.  So, matches against them from this point on should be regarded as byes (for instance, the Black Swan at Ashover team has a bye on 26 January).  If things change sufficiently with Covid incidences as the season progresses, then perhaps they will be able to play a few remaining matches as friendlies.

I will send out a separate email with the draw for the cup and plate competitions for matches on 16 February.

The revised fixture list on our Fixture Page.

At this point we are hoping to restart the league on 26 January.  We could keep delaying, but it is felt that if possible we should try to get things moving as this will give us the best opportunity to finish the league in a reasonable timescale.  It is possible that some individual matches may need to be postponed in the coming weeks due to full team or venue unavailability and if this arises we may need to move the date of the finals and presentations evening back to allow a couple of weeks to catch up.

On our Fixture Page is the revised match schedule (you will see that fixtures have simply been moved back but remain in the same order).  We will confirm next week that the league will start on this date as hoped, but in the mean time please check that there are no problems you can see with this revised timetable with your venues and teams.  When we restart, if a postponement is required, please try to contact the opposing team and the venue (if it is yours) as early as possible.

Don Ingham writes:-

Due to the existing uncertainties and current restrictions which are starting to come into effect, the committee has decided to suspend the league at the beginning of January with no play on 5th, 12th or 19th. The committee is meeting at the start of January when hopefully we will have a better view of the future and the current pessimistic outlook may be improving. We will inform you then when we hope to restart the fixtures and I will send out a new fixture list to you all (we expect to just move existing matches back until free Wednesdays are taken up – no major rejig).

Please make sure your pubs and team members are informed of this.

Have a Merry Christmas all and hopefully we’ll enjoy good quizzing in the new year – I’ll be in touch then.

Potentially Moving To Zoom

*

All players please consult your team contact who has received a document and email explanation from Don Ingham for DPQL fixtures to move to Zoom should lockdown pressures increase.

Don asks for each team to respond with their ability to move to remote play, after reading the full explanation. Not every team might be affected, and not every match.

We Rise Again On Wednesday!

*

On Wednesday 20th the 2021-2022 season of the Derbyshire Pub Quiz League will begin.

Fixtures can be found on our fixtures page.

Please note that individual pubs may have varied their start time from the normal 8:30, sometimes to 8:00.

If some pub names seem new you will more often than not find familiar faces who have moved home.

*

Good luck everyone. Your patience will be rewarded.

Thanks, too, to the DPQL Committee whose work has ensured that the League has survived to quiz again.
