Ian Robertson supplied this short account:-

“Four members of the DPQL attended the memorial service for our former vice -president Frank Sanders at a well attended St Edmunds Church on Monday 20 January. The four were Sally Levitt, John Wesson, Ann Ainsworth and Ian Robertson. Two former players, Dick Baker and Dave Burrows also attended.

“The service included a potted history of Frank’s long and varied career and interests given by his daughter, plus other tributes, and a slide show illustrating his career in the RAF and his passions for globe-trotting and hiking.”

Should any league members  wish to remember Frank then in lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Derbyshire Children’s Hospital League of Friends, towards the creation of a Sensory Room.

Forewarned is Fore …

Mike McKenna has been working hard and supplied the questions used on Wednesday 22nd. Find them on our Sample Quiz page. The Results are on our Results Page, thanks for Sally’s efforts.

But Mike wonders if he has been working too hard. He writes about the forthcoming quiz:-

“I printed everything and put it in envelopes with stamps; all done ready to go. Except I had reason to query things and then found I had printed the wrong set of questions.

“Every envelope for 29 Jan had to be opened and the correct questions put in. So the envelope was re-sealed with “sellotape” and initialed MLM by me; there is nothing sinister with the re-sealing except it tells you I made a cock-up!”

Sally has more details about Frank, a founder of our League, a long-time question setter, and a Vice-President of the League at the time of his death:-

A Thanksgiving Service will be held at St Edmund’s Church, Allestree next Monday, 20th January at 2.30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations may be made to the Derbyshire Children’s Hospital League of Friends towards the creation of a Sensory Room.

Frank Sanders

We post this with great sadness.

We have been told that Franks Sanders passed away at the weekend at his daughter’s house in the Northampton area.

Ann Ainsworth adds: ” I have happy memories of DPQL meetings at Frank ‘s house both before and after Janet, his first wife, died.

“Like John I also remember Frank as an accomplished quiz setter and question master for the Derbyshire Rural Community Council quizzes broadcast on Radio Derby. It was largely down to the network Frank created through that annual event that led to the rapid expansion of the quiz league in its early years.”

And Mike McKenna notes, “Frank was a stalwart of the in-house quiz competition at Rolls-Royce & Associates, with Jock Smith, before the Radio Derby connection.”

We will post more details as we receive them. For the time being we will enable comments to be posted, should you wish to share memories of Frank’s work. Click on the word Comment in green to see comments or to add one. We will try to approve comments as quickly as possible.
