Open Trophy Fixtures

David Edwards writes:-

“I’ve had a couple of enquiries about next week’s Open Trophy fixtures. In case some teams might have mislaid their fixture list, I’m attaching the general version of it again. The draw and full list of qualifying matches for both North and South is on the second sheet. Please contact me if you need the fixture list specific to your team again, or if there are any other queries.”

[The webmaster adds: The document can be found on our Fixtures Page.]

Open Trophy Arrangements

David Edwards writes:

“For many teams in the Barmote and Scarsdale Divisions, the Open Trophy is already under way. Attached is a description of how this necessarily more complex format will work and how, at each stage, progression to the next round will be achieved. The document is long and repetitive. This is to ensure, as far as possible, that any potential dispute or ambiguity can be instantly settled. It should not be necessary to be familiar with the whole document. Hopefully, at each stage of the competition, it should be clear which sections should be referred to.”

Mike McKenna writes:-

“Please be aware that to ensure quizzes arrive in time I need to post questions to your pub earlier in the run up to Christmas.

“This could mean your pub has two sets of questions. Please check the date shown on the envelope label.”

Derby team wins UKs largest pub quiz*

Punch Taverns have run an inter-pub quiz over the last few years.  You can read how The Masons Arms in Derby became 2013 champions in these articles:-

and the history of the competition:-

We notice that “We will be opening for registrations for the 2014 competition at this year’s Partner Roadshows in October and we are expecting even more teams to enter.”  How many Derbyshire teams have signed up? Is it too late for any more Derbyshire Punch pubs to join?

Don’t I recall playing at the Masons Arms in years past? Shouldn’t you rejoin us? [asks the Webmaster]

*Incidentally, organising one of the country’s largest quiz competitions does not seem to mean that said organisers can issue a press release showing mastery of the possessive apostrophe. The title is theirs, not ours. (And, I assume that Mason Arms should be Masons Arms!)

Questions Delayed

We are delaying putting up this week’s questions, as one team failed to receive their set and so could not play their match. The two teams will play at a later date using the questions for Wednesday 6th.

In order to avoid the disappointment of arriving at your pub to find the questions have gone astray in the post please check a day ahead that your pub has received the questions. Questions are always sent out in good time, in clearly identified envelopes, often to arrive on Mondays. Alternatively, ask your landlord to let your team representative know if the questions have not arrived in the Tuesday post. Then contact the General Secretary to arrange an emergency delivery.
